Halloween
(or Hallowe'en) is a holiday celebrated on the night of October 31.
Traditional
activities include trick-or-treating, ghost tours, bonfires, costume
parties,
visiting "haunted houses," and carving jack-o’-lanterns. The
term is
shortened from All-hallow-even, as it is the eve of All Hallows' Day,
which is
now also known as All Saints' Day. Irish and Scottish immigrants
carried
versions of the tradition to North America in the nineteenth century,
and other
Western countries embraced the holiday in the late twentieth century.
Halloween
is celebrated in several parts of the Western world, most commonly in
Ireland,
the United States, Canada, Puerto Rico, and the United Kingdom and
occasionally
in parts of Australia and New Zealand.

Goth
is a contemporary subculture found in many countries. It began in the
United
Kingdom during the early 1980s in the gothic rock scene. The goth
subculture
has survived much longer than others of the same era and continued to
diversify.
Its imagery and cultural proclivities indicate influences from 19th
century
Gothic literature, along with horror movies and perhaps, the BDSM
culture. The
subculture has associated tastes in music, aesthetics, and fashion.
Gothic
music typically includes a lugubrious, mystical sound and outlook.
Styles of
dress range from death rock, punk, androgynous, medieval, Renaissance,
and
Victorian style clothes (or combinations of these), most often with
black
attire, makeup, and hair.
